Caughley

There was a well known porcelain works here which used locally made saggars. Chris asked WAG to help him locate it. We spent a long day earlier in the year doing some geophysics and getting sunburnt. After several Monday evening strolls around the site doing some measurements and some jiggery pokery with maps, we think we know where the saggar works is. Not where we did the geophysics! Hopefully we shall be able to do a geophysics survey of the area on September 1st.

1/9/2002 Caughley A blazing hot day, we were there early and did a lot of geophysics. later we had a very nice meal in the local pub. The geophysics seems to confirm where the saggar works is and there was additional evidence of bricks just under the surface. A report has been submitted to the owner, Lady Forrester and we hope she will give permission do a trial excavation.

May 2003 We now have permission from Lady Forrester to do some "turf lifting" on 4 occasions. We hope to do this on Sundays July 6th, 20th, 27th and August 3rd.
