Gnosall

The tithe map of the area around the church shows the location of prebendary houses.  These are no longer visible.  However some Roman artifacts have been discovered in the area and it is thought the church dates back to Saxon times.  WAG has been asked to investigate the spacious vicarage front garden and adjoining field.  Some preliminary geophysics has shown some areas worth investigating further and we are awaiting a preliminary report to be submitted before serious excavation can take place.

Spring 2002

A preliminary foray in wet and windy weather to survey the area.

Autumn 2002

Another visit to confirm surface features relative to the geophysics.  A preliminary report is to be written.

Spring 2003 The report is written, WAG together with the Field Archaeology course spent a surveying weekend planning the garden area and the field. A week later some of us went up the church tower to photograph the land.

Digging is planned for August so watch this space!
