Digging started on April 25th and is continuing throughout the year. Currently (August 2004) Trench 1 is being extended to investigate a rubble spread and a new trench has been opened up near the trees to investigate a feature shown by the geophysics survey.
The trench near the trees showed nothing of note, the dark area on the geophysics is probably an artefact caused by the trees removing water from the soil, but we did find the cold water pipe (again!). A further trench to the south contained a sand bar which was also probably responsible for the irregular linear feature seen on geophysics.
